Police are searching for a duo who injured an 80-year-old Sandy Springs woman during a robbery Sunday.

Shirley Maddox was walking to her apartment from a grocery store on Spalding Drive when a woman got out of an SUV and grabbed her purse, a Sandy Springs police report states. Maddox tried to hang on to her purse as the woman tried to run and Maddox fell, hit her head and cut her eye.

“I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck,” Maddox told Channel 2 Action News.

Bruises covered her left arm and face.

Maddox told the news station she had been carrying groceries in both arms when she was attacked by a woman who appeared to be in her 30s.

“She grabbed my purse and jumped in the front seat of the car and they took off,” Maddox said.

She said she never saw the driver of the SUV.

Maddox’s credit cards were later used on Buford Highway, Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Sam Worsham told the news station.

“We're definitely concerned about this,” Worsham said. “Our detectives are working on this.”

There were no witnesses and none of the nearby security cameras recorded video of the attack, the police report states.

Anyone with information should call the Sandy Springs Police Department.
