A 19-year-old man remains in jail after authorities say he killed a former lover.

Elijah William Ramoutar was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the death of Alyssa Ann Wright, according to Newton County Sheriff’s Office investigator Jeff Alexander.

Wright, 19, was found dead in a home on White Birch Drive in Covington after sheriff’s deputies were called there about a “trouble unknown,” Alexander said. Officials said the call was made by a “third party.”

Ramoutar was arrested on the scene, Alexander said. Family and friends told authorities Wright and Ramoutar were previously in a relationship.

Officials did not provide a motive for why Ramoutar may have killed Wright. He was arrested earlier this year, according to jail records.

An autopsy has not been completed, Alexander said. The investigation is ongoing.
