After 18 months of work, a two-lane roundabout at a Roswell intersection should be fully operational by the end of the year, city officials say.
To improve safety and relieve congestion, the Georgia Department of Transportation has been working on transforming the standard and signalized intersection of Houze and Hembree roads into a two-lane roundabout.
Some work has been delayed due to a steady rainfall this summer, but the intersection should be open as a one-lane roundabout by this weekend, city officials say.

But there will likely still be delays at the intersection until work is fully complete.
Here’s what drivers can expect at the intersection in the coming weeks and months, according to Roswell officials:
- GDOT contractors will be adding new pavement and concrete islands to the new roundabout through mid-August.
- Contractors will be removing the traffic signal at this intersection by this weekend. The intersection will then operate as a one-lane roundabout.
- Construction work will be done during daylight hours, but drivers should expect some delays while paving and concrete work continues over the next several days and weeks. Although there will be no road closures, flaggers may be on-site to direct traffic through the work zone.
- The project also includes a multiuse trail on the south side of Hembree Road that will connect with the existing trail near Upper Hembree Road.

The construction cost for the Houze and Hembree roundabout is approximately $4.4 million, and was funded by GDOT.
Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering and design and right-of-way acquisition.
