City officials in Milton say that they are expecting up to 10,000 people to attend this year’s annual high school football rivalry game between Cambridge and Milton.
The game is set for Friday at Cambridge High School, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
Because of the number of fans expected, the city and its police department are installing a traffic and parking plan to help drivers and relieve congestion in the area. Still, drivers should expect delays. The city says that some fans plan on arriving as early as 5 p.m. to tailgate.
"With Friday afternoon commuters and fans converging on Cogburn Road and Bethany Bend Road, we wanted to offer some detailed parking and exiting instructions to help traffic move as smoothly as possible," said Charles Barstow, captain of the Milton Police Department.
Here is Milton's parking plan for the game:
- Parents dropping off students for the game should use Cambridge's upper parking lot off Bethany Bend Road.
- Game night parking is available in both the Cambridge upper and lower lots and the Kings Ridge Christian School lower lot, located on Cogburn Road.
- All vehicles will be required to exit right from the parking lots, and police officials suggest that fans select their parking lot based on their destination after the game.
- Stonecreek Church is also offering fan parking for people who wish to park and walk over to the stadium.
- Attendees should refrain from parking on the shoulders of roadways to avoid ticketing or towing.

The city is urging northbound commuters to avoid Cogburn Road on Friday evening and instead suggest drivers to take an alternate route, via Hopewell Road or Ga. Highway 9.
"We appreciate the community's patience while we work to ensure a safe and smooth game night experience for the fans and all our residents," said Rich Austin, Milton’s chief of police.
According to MaxPreps, Milton is 1-1 this year after a season-opening win over Alpharetta and a loss to North Gwinnett. Cambridge is 0-1 after losing to Creekview last week.
