Can you imagine a casino resort like this in Atlanta?

This video shows what the $1.3 billion MGM National Harbor resort near Washington, D.C., will look like when it’s completed next year.

MGM Resorts International is the behind-the-scenes power player backing an effort to legalize casino gambling in Georgia. The National Harbor resort is a prototype for what the company says it could build in metro Atlanta — should casinos be legalized and the company granted a license to operate such a venue. The AJC reported on the project over the weekend.

The company has scouted sites in downtown. Other casino operators are said to be interested in bringing more gambling to Georgia.

In the video, the camera sweeps across the calm waters of the Potomac River and captures sight of a narrow tower in the distance. It’s a slick animation of what will be Maryland’s largest casino complex.

The 23-acre resort sits about 10 miles south of the U.S. Capitol along the Beltway in Prince George’s County, Md.
