Another one of Walmart’s Neighborhood Market stores is set to shut its doors for good.
Phillip Keene, a spokesman with the mega retailer, confirmed that the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 11770 Haynes Bridge Road in Alpharetta will close by May 7.
About 70 jobs will be affected, but all of the store’s employees will be offered transfer options at nearby Walmart locations. Walmart has two “Supercenter” stores in Alpharetta.
“The decision to close our Alpharetta Neighborhood Market is not an easy one, but, as a company, we are committed to continuing our growth and investment in Georgia,” Keene said in a statement. “We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Alpharetta location.”
The market also has a pharmacy and that will stay open until the end of April. Keene said Walmart will work with customers in transferring their prescriptions.
The Alpharetta location opened its doors in September 2012 and spans across 46,000 square feet. The news of its closing comes just weeks after Walmart closed its Neighborhood Market in Roswell. Walmart closed a store in Marietta on March 3 and seven other Georgia stores in early 2016.
Keene added that Walmart and Sam’s Club operate more than 200 stores in Georgia and opened 11 more in 2016, creating about 1,400 jobs. Over the next year, Walmart plans to open a store in Cumming and will remodel 18 Georgia locations.
