DeKalb Early College Academy, in between the cities of Stone Mountain and Tucker, is included on a 2018 ranking of “standout schools” in Georgia.

Niche.com's list had the school as the No. 10 public school in Georgia. The school got an A- overall and excelled in categories of teachers, health and safety and academics.

The ranking, which is based on federal data and “self-reporting” by users of the website, is limited to schools where at least half the students are identified as economically disadvantaged.

“The ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education,” Niche said. “Ranking factors include school diversity, graduation rates and state test scores for economically disadvantaged and minority students, SAT/ACT scores, and the quality of colleges that students consider.”

The top school in the ranking is Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Richmond County.
