There’s nothing new about friendly Super Bowl bets between mayors and governors involved with the participating teams.
Now, the mayor of Flowery Branch, where the Atlanta Falcons’ headquarters and training complex is located, is getting in on the action, the Gainesville Times reported.
Mike Miller has made a wager with David Feldman, the chairman of the governing board of Foxborough, Mass., where the New England Patriots play their home games.
Miller has bet a case of Big Red gum, courtesy of the Wrigley’s plant in the Hall County city, coffee from Common Grounds, cookies from Calliope Sweets, and treats from Liberty Candy Company, according to the report.
Also, Miller has a No. 37 jersey, the number worn by Falcons defender and Flowery Branch resident Ricardo Allen, for Feldman to wear at Foxborough’s next public meeting, the newspaper reported.
Miller reeks of confidence about the big game in Houston, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
“The original bet was that the loser would send (gifts) to the winner,” he said. “But out of true Southern hospitality, I just wanted to go ahead and get him some sweets so it would help with that bitter taste of defeat when the Falcons are beating them on Sunday.”
