North Point Community Church was founded by Andy Stanley in 1995, and opened the doors of its Alpharetta campus in 1998.

Since then, it’s grown to be the second largest church in America, according to a recent study.

247wallst.com — a site that bills itself as a place for "insightful analysis and commentary for U.S. and global equity investors" — recently compiled various data and ranked the largest churches in America.

According to the site’s study, Alpharetta’s North Point was second, only to Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, led by Joel Osteen.

To compile the list, 247wallst.com looked at weekly attendance figures for the congregations of churches with data from the Hartford Institute for Religion research. It considered only churches who have a regular weekly attendance of at least 2,000 people.

According to 247wallst.com, North Point is an independent, non-denominational church with an average weekly attendance of 30,629. That’s almost 13,000 shy of Osteen’s church, which hosts 43,500 weekly, according to the study.

In total, North Point Ministries has six churches in the metro Atlanta area. The church also has a live online broadcast and offers several podcasts.

No other church in Georgia landed in the top 25 of 247wallst.com’s study.
