Students at a high school in north Fulton County are receiving attention for a documentary they made about the dangers of drug use in high schools.
Collen McCreanor, Amy Pollmann and Brynn Wilson — three students at Cambridge High School in Milton — produced the film called “420” where the issues around the use of heroin, cocaine and pills are highlighted and addressed.
They told Channel 2 Action News that they were inspired to make the film when a classmate of theirs, Chamberlain Ivey, was found dead in a lake after an Alpharetta house party in December 2016.
“Certainly, there has always been drug use in the high schools, but what we have been seeing lately is a disturbing upward trend in the use of opioids and heroin,” U.S. attorney John Horn told Channel 2.
The movie has more than 8,000 views online.
Filmakers interviewed a few anonymous students, several people with the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, and Yolanda McKnight — Ivey’s mother.
The documentary is about 30 minutes long and is available for free on YouTube. The opening begins with an anonymous man saying, "There's just so much going on at one time that you can't even get a grasp of it. It's like a carnival."
