Cobb County is notifying private property owners within a mile of SunTrust Park that 2017 applications for special event parking registration are available now for download.
Round one of the letters went out to property owners within a half-mile of SunTrust Park last week by the Cobb County Community Development Agency.
This week remaining owners, within a mile radius, will be notified.
With county approval, that means individuals can sell parking for special events throughout the county.
With the addition of SunTrust Park to the many other special event venues in Cobb County, the Board of Commissioners approved a special event parking ordinance in October to help manage traffic flow and pedestrian movements in these areas through a registration process and a $55 application fee.
“The new code applies to more than the new home of the Atlanta Braves,” Cobb Community Development Agency Director Dana Johnson said in a written statement. “We encourage any property owner who is interested in selling parking around any of the county’s special events to submit an application for parking registration.”
The registration process allows public safety, the department of transportation and community development staff to be aware of specific special event parking locations, provide safety for people and their personal property and have an accurate point of contact in the event issues occur.
The Cumberland area is one of the central points of this focus as the county implements parking and pedestrian plans to manage people and vehicles during Atlanta Braves game days at the ballpark, starting in March.
