A developing sinkhole in Roswell will force a partial road closure Wednesday of Old Alabama Road south of the roundabout near the Riverwalk residential development.

Weather permitting and continuing for four to seven days, crews will conduct emergency repairs that will close both northbound lanes of Old Alabama from Riverside Road to the roundabout, according to a city announcement.

All non-local traffic will be detoured at Riverside. Riverwalk residents will be able to access their homes from the north, via the roundabout; and from the south, on Old Alabama from Riverside to their community’s private entrance south of the roundabout, River Rapids Drive.

“However, a full road closure with barriers will be in place for all northbound lanes north of River Rapids Drive to prevent vehicles from approaching the excavation work zone,” the city said. “Drivers should absolutely not attempt to drive around barriers to reach the roundabout as severe injury and extensive damage to their vehicle could result.”
