Tucker is cracking down after months of driver complaints about illegal rush-hour maneuvering at the intersection of Fellowship Road and Lawrenceville Highway, the city said.
Southbound problem drivers on Fellowship are seen “routinely” cutting across traffic from a left-turn only lane to go across Lawrenceville toward Idlewood Road. Sometimes they make right turns from the left turn lane.
“We can’t stop selfish drivers from doing stupid things,” Mayor Frank Auman said in a news release, “but we can punish them when they do.”

City leaders are working with DeKalb County and the state on a long-term solution, but the city reports a “noticeable improvement” in recent weeks. DeKalb County police officers have been camping out at the intersection, writing several hundred tickets since the start of 2017.
“Eventually drivers get the message that dangerous driving isn’t worth the expense of a ticket,” said Lt. R.S. Smith, Tucker’s police liaison. “This kind of ticket is costing drivers anywhere from $200 in fines all the way up to $1,000.”
Also helping is the fact that traffic lights on the highway are back to their normal pace, after officials added more time for traffic to pass during the I-85 bridge collapse repairs.
