Sandy Springs has been preparing for this kind of weather since late summer.

It even has a cool term for its planners: the “winter storm emergency team.”

“We’ve mobilized and will begin with monitoring bridges, overpasses and trouble areas as the first system goes through tonight into tomorrow,” a spokeswoman said in an email. “Our crews will be working on 12-hour shifts through the weekend and into Monday if necessary.”

The city began communicating with residents to remind them to prepare Wednesday, she said. The team will adjust as needed as the system evolves.

Johns Creek officials will have an update meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss the city's emergency preparations.
