Somehow, 38 goats escaped a fenced-in area near a detention pond in Brookhaven, leading residents to help corral them.

“It is still unclear whether it was an inside job or they had help from the outside,” city spokesman Burke Brennan said in a tongue-in-cheek news release Thursday.

The goats had been at the Drew Valley detention pond, which serves the neighborhood off Buford Highway, so they could eat weeds and underbrush. (Goats are often used in such efforts.)

Several “courageous and energetic” residents helped the goats back to the fenced-in area.

No injuries (to humans or goats) were reported.
