Thanks to the "biggest snow threat" in two years, a statewide Christmas tree recycling event that culminates Saturday has extended its schedule in some areas.

Georgia's "Bring one for the Chipper" program encourages residents to bring their trees to designated recycling locations.

It will continue until Monday at Home Depots in areas “experiencing severe winter weather” on Saturday, the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation announced Thursday afternoon.

"Participating stores in areas not impacted by the storm will continue to accept trees only on Saturday,” Program Coordinator Meagan Whitehead said. “Additional drop-off locations in your area, like parks and recycling centers, may also be affected.”

Check the website for a list of locations and contact the local coordinating organization for updates on other Christmas tree recycling site delays or closings.

Alpharetta cancelled its Christmas tree recycling event that was to occur Saturday, according to a city spokesman.

Milton said on Facebook that rescheduling beyond Saturday "isn't an option."

That city suggested residents drop their trees off at Windward Home Depot or Scottsdale Farms Garden Center “before predicted winter precipitation.”

Scottsdale Farms Garden Center will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
