Check your fridge: Ground turkey sold at Publix and Aldi has been recalled.
The poultry product may contain metal shavings, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The problem was discovered at a North Carolina processing plant on Sept. 27. Turkey at Weis Markets locations is also included, but there are no Weis Markets in Georgia.
The following products are included in the recall:
- 1.3-pound White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled "Publix ground turkey breast WITH NATURAL FLAVORINGS" with ink jet printing on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
- 1.3-pound White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled "Publix ground turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORINGS" with ink jet labeling on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
- 1.2-pound White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled "Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey With Natural Flavoring" with ink jet labeling on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
- 1.0-pound White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled "Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast" with ink jet labeling on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
The products included in the recall were shipped to Georgia stores, as well as those in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
If you have any of these products, the USDA advises you to throw them away or return them to the store for a refund. The turkey should not be consumed. There had not been any reports of “adverse reactions” to the ground turkey breast as of Oct. 2, when the Department of Agriculture announced the recall.
