A popular upscale DeKalb County Southern restaurant failed its recent health inspection with a variety of concerns

Southbound, at 5394 Peachtree Road in Chamblee, received a 53 last week, according to the inspector's report. The inspector took points after seeing an employee wiping hands with an excessively soiled towel while preparing food.

A worker was noted handling raw meat and then ready-to-eat food. Kale was seen not washed before preparing for serving.

Owner Mike Plummer said he didn’t feel the inspection was fair.

“It was nothing that’s harmful to anyone that we got graded on,” he said. “We have a very, very clean establishment.”

Restaurants that fail are typically re-checked within 10 days.

The restaurant’s last scores were 90 and 86.
