As the sun rose over voters waiting for the doors to open in Tucker, two colors mixed in the clouds: red and blue.

Fitting, considering the people at the Main Street precinct, which went for Mitt Romney in 2012 while most of the DeKalb County went to President Barack Obama, are a good variety of Republican and Democratic voters. About 50 of them were lined up as the doors opened at exactly 7 a.m. Tuesday, and they began to stream inside.

Thomas Philip had voted early and brought his 38-year-old daughter to cast her ballot.

Philip’s a supporter of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. He said he’s amazed that Donald Trump is the best the Republicans can do.

“He’s not up to the standard of United States president,” Philip said, dragging on a cigarette, leaned against his car in the parking lot.

Philip’s fellow Tucker resident Tom Langston is concerned for the country.

“I’m hopeful the American people don’t make an idiotic decision,” he said.

In his mind, the idiotic decision would be to elect “somebody with a track record of being corrupt,” referring to Clinton.

The polls are open until 7 p.m.
