The land where Mountain View Elementary students played kickball and learned to multiply could become restaurants and apartments.

The Cobb County Board of Education agreed at its Thursday meeting to sell the property, 3448 Sandy Plains Road, to developers with plans to build a housing-retail mixed-use project.

Board members voted unanimously to sell the 13.8-acre campus for $1 million an acre, said Donna Lowry, a Cobb school district spokeswoman.

Students will be coming back in the fall to a new school building near the old one, Lowry said.

Atlanta developer Jeff Fuqua confirmed Wednesday that he and Marietta's Brooks Chadwick Capital have the property under contract to build.

He wouldn’t give further details, citing a confidentiality agreement.

Fuqua said they expect to file their zoning application soon but wouldn’t give a timeline.

Fuqua redeveloped a Cobb trailer park into Kennesaw Marketplace. He was also an integral part of creating The Battery Atlanta, the mixed-use development attached to the Braves' new SunTrust Park.
