The vote has been postponed on a developer's ambitious plans for the corner of Hugh Howell Road and Mountain Industrial Boulevard.

Stephen Macauley put in applications to build a mixed-use development on 88 acres, which would be called "Nexus Tucker."

The city council's vote was initially set for Monday night, but the developer has now made substantial changes to the plans. The planning commission intends to review the applications on Dec. 19, with the city council tentatively planning to vote on Jan. 23, a city spokesman said.

The original plans included a movie studio and hotel, which have been nixed. The original 616 apartments planned have been cut in half, with Macauley now planning more retail, office and medical space, according to the city staff.

Macauley has proposed 242 senior-living units, 122 townhomes, 43 houses, 160,000 square feet of retail space and more. The developer has also proposed an elementary school and an amphitheater.

Nexus Tucker could rival the number of residents in the city of Pine Lake, which has about 760 residents.

City staff expressed doubts and recommended officials deny previous versions of the plans, according to a planning report.
