Soccer and lacrosse players in north Fulton County have a new field to play on.

A new synthetic turf field in Johns Creek at Shakerag Park is now open and ready for play.

It is the third synthetic turf field in the city. Funding for the field came from the parks bond, which was approved by the city in November 2016.

The soccer and lacrosse fields at Newtown Park were also converted to synthetic turf and opened for play in October.

The city says that the new turf fields at both parks will allow upcoming sports seasons to play on through inclement weather. When it rains, synthetic turf fields drain more efficiently than grass fields.

The Johns Creek Parks Bond will also be used in the build out of the city’s five recently purchased parks. Johns Creek is still reviewing options for its largest park of nearly 200 acres, which is located along the Chattahoochee River, and will continue to work with the public before the council determines its final design concept, the city says.
