In Roswell, the Lori Henry era is officially underway at city hall.

Henry, the city's first woman to serve as mayor, was sworn in during a city council meeting on Monday. Henry, who had previously served on the council, succeeds longtime mayor Jere Wood.

The agenda for Roswell’s first city council meeting of 2018 was light. The only voting that took place was the election of a new mayor pro tempore for 2018. Winning the election by a 4-2 vote was Post 4 council member, Marie Willsey.

In 2017, under Wood's regime, Donald J. Horton had been the mayor pro tem. Horton was the Post 3 councilman, but resigned to run for mayor. He did not garner enough votes to advance to the runoff, where Henry was victorious over local pastor Lee Jenkins.

At the meeting, Wood, and former council members Jerry Orlans and Nancy Diamond — who did not seek re-election — were presented with the “key to the city.”

Other newly elected council members Sean Groer, Matthew Tyser, Matt Judy and Willsey were also sworn in.

The mayor and city council are scheduled to attend a retreat in Columbus Jan. 18-21. The next public meeting and work session is set for Jan. 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
