Several apartments were damaged in Lawrenceville on Tuesday when a fire broke out, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.

A fire was reported by a maintenance worker at the Anzio at Sweetwater apartment complex at 3100 Sweetwater Road NW on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters responded at 1:34 p.m., finding two units in flames.

The fire appeared to have started on the balcony of a “middle unit” and spread to the unit above it. Fire also entered the attic of the building, Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

Two apartment units were heavily damaged, one had moderate damage and “several” others had residual water and smoke damage, Rutledge said. The cause has not been determined and is still under investigation.
