A mom and her three children who had been missing for a week were found Wednesday at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Commerce, officials said.

Brittany Rebecca Stewart and her three sons were found safely about 1:30 p.m., Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols said. The family had been missing since Thursday.

Stewart was last seen Sunday with her three sons at a gas station in Habersham County, Nichols said. She used her food stamp card later that day in Greenvile, S.C.

Authorities in North Carolina and South Carolina were notified, he said. Both states border Rabun County, which is about 108 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.

Officials did not believe Stewart was a danger to her children, Nichols said. However, the woman’s family was concerned about her state of mind.

Before she went missing, Stewart told family members she “needed some time to sort things out,” according to the sheriff.

Officials have not determined why Stewart and her family left home.
