A missing man’s body was found decomposing near apartments on McNeal Road in Winder, police said.

Steven Lloyd Sheriff, 49, of Winder, left the nearby Holly Hill apartments July 28 and had not been heard from again, Winder police spokesman Lt. Chris Cooper said in a news release.

Sheriff’s body was found Monday in an area between Regal Apartments and several buildings on McNeal Road, some of which were vacant, Cooper said.

Police do not suspect foul play.

“The area of the body was not visible to the general public as it was surrounded by an empty building, a privacy fence and some small trees and overgrown brush,” Cooper said.

Investigators said though the body was decomposed, personal items, photo identification and other details in the area helped identify Sheriff.
