The Milton City Council has joined its counterparts in Roswell, Sandy Springs and Woodstock in approving a partnership agreement with Gas South that makes the utility a preferred vendor.
The council voted 6-1 to approve the Gas South-Milton Affinity Program, with Council Member Matt Kunz casting the dissenting vote.
Gas South will offer Milton residents and city employees in the utility’s service area a discount of 2 cents per therm off standard residential rate plans, according to the agreement. This is for new and existing customers who use the city’s promotional code.
Additionally, the utility will make a one-time “incentive payment” of $12 for each new residential account and $24 for each new commercial account that signs up using the promotional code; and a continuing “loyalty payment” of $1 and $2 per month, respectively, for these customers.
The partnership runs for one year and will continue for successive one-year periods unless either party gives notice of termination.
“This is not an exclusive agreement, and should the city be approached by other utility providers with similar interests, we will complete the (request for proposals) process,” Sarah LaDart, economic development manager for the city, said in a memo to the council. “At this time, no other provider has approached us for partnership.”
