A man turned himself in and bonded out hours after being accused of causing a fatal crash in Cobb County last month, a sheriff’s office spokesman confirmed Monday.

Michael Shane Stephenson, of White, was booked Friday on misdemeanor charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failing to yield, jail records show.

John H. Clemons, of Americus, was killed in the Mableton crash, police said. He was 36.

Stephenson, 44 at the time, was trying to turn left onto Oakdale Road from Veterans Memorial Highway about 5 a.m. on June 20 when he "did not yield the right of way" to Clemons heading the other direction, according to a police warrant.

Stephenson was in jail for 2½ hours before paying $5,720 to bond out, according to the jail.

A second-degree vehicular homicide charge is defined by Georgia code as being an unintentional death.
