An Austell man was found drowned in Lake Acworth, police said Saturday.

Ricky Wayne Watson, 61, was last seen swimming in the lake in Cauble Park on Friday, Capt. Mark Cheatham of the Acworth Police Department said in a news release.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the park, which is on Beach Street, Cheatham said. Officers made contact with family members, and witnesses gave an approximate location where Watson was last seen.

The Cobb County Fire Department water rescue team responded, and a boat with sonar was deployed, Cheatham said. Crews searched the water until about 11:30 p.m.

Officials resumed the search about 9 a.m. Saturday, and Watson’s body was found in the water outside the designated swim area, Cheatham said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 770-974-3111.
