A man charged with shooting a sheriff's deputy in Illinois has been apprehended in Gwinnett County, the Winnebago County Sheriff announced.

Jordan D. Spates, 27, was arrested on Oct. 7 in a joint operation led by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Violent Fugitive Unit and Atlanta FBI. Spates is facing one charge of aggravated battery to a police officer with a firearm, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.

Spates and Jarrion J. Moore are both charged in connection with the Sept. 23 shooting of a Winnebago County sheriff’s deputy in Rockdale, Illinois. The deputy attempted to stop a car shortly before 2 a.m. when the driver exited and fired several gunshots. The deputy suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Moore was arrested on Sept. 23 and charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and resisting arrest, but Spates was at large for nearly two weeks. The sheriff’s office and the Rockford FBI office offered a combined reward of $15,000 for information leading to Spates’ arrest.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office learned that Spates was in Lawrenceville on Oct. 6. The next day, he was seen at a residence by police and was arrested hours later, a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office release said.

Spates is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. He is awaiting extradition to Illinois.
