Lilburn has converted its city hall into a storm shelter as metro Atlanta prepares for the impact of Tropical Storm Irma.

The city opened the first floor of city hall at 76 Main Street as a shelter at 8:30 a.m. Monday and will keep it open as long as necessary. City government is closed Monday due to inclement weather.

Lilburn has activated its emergency operations center and increased the number of police personnel on duty. The city’s public works department is prepared to clear debris from roads.

“The city government is prepared to help our residents weather this storm. We encourage all residents and businesses to take steps to prepare, as well,” City Manager Bill Johnsa said in a city release.
