On Monday night, Bruce Zavitz saw a large black bear in his backyard. By Tuesday morning, it was still there — and it had eaten all Zavitz’s bird seed.

The bear, nearly six feet tall, appeared around 10:30 p.m. Monday. When Zavitz woke up at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the bear had destroyed a bird feeder and eaten the seed inside.

“He was not afraid of me,” Zavitz told Channel 2 Action News.

This isn’t the first time Zavitz has seen a black bear in the backyard of the Sugar Hill home he shares with his wife. Zavitz previously saw a bear cub in the yard, prompting his friends to buy him a small plastic bear cub to keep on the back deck.

Zavitz hopes this is the last he sees of the large bear in his yard, but the figurine will continue to stand guard, he told Channel 2.
