One person died and several others, including three children, were injured after a crash Monday on C.H. James Parkway near Garrett Road in Austell, according to Cobb County police.

DeAndre Johnson, 20, of Douglasville was seated in the back of a Lexus traveling northbound when driver Marquis McKnight, 19, of Hiram lost control of the car, Cobb County police spokesman Dana Pierce said in a release. The Lexus hit Serge Laguerre and his family inside a Ford traveling southbound.

The Lexus hit the front right side of the Ford, with both cars coming to an uncontrolled stop in the southbound lanes. Johnson died at the scene.

Laguerre, 48, and Marie Hyppolie, 39, both of Atlanta, were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, according to the release. Their children were taken to Scottish Rite Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

McKnight and front-seat passenger Clarece Nunnally, 19, were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, according to the release.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes and one northbound lane of U.S. 278 early Monday.
