The Town Center Community Improvement District in the Kennesaw area recently released a list of 2016 accomplishments during 2016:
- The first year for the Zagster Bike Share Program saw more than 5,000 people taking greater than 12,000 rides with more than half being repeat riders. This program was one of the first in the nation to upgrade to the latest Bluetooth technology in October, which made the bicycles even more user friendly. The program also received the 2016 CREATE Community Award for Technology from the Atlanta Regional Commission.
- Phase II of the South Barrett Reliever project began and continues with construction, including the realignment of Barrett Lakes Boulevard at Shiloh Valley Drive and a two-lane roundabout at the intersection.
- Concept and design of Aviation Park was approved by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
- Plans were finalized for the Noonday Creek Bells Ferry Trailhead, including a new restroom facility, seating plaza, trash disposal, outdoor lighting and shade trees. Groundbreaking will begin in early 2017.
- Progress continued on the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes to help reduce travel time and congestion along I-75.
- The Town Center CID Master Plan was updated, which will establish goals and identify improvements in land use, open space and transportation. The revised plan will be available in early 2017.
- The Skip Spann Connector, the first lighted bridge in Cobb County, opened in April, eased traffic by 19 percent on Chastain Road and helped secure safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
- A new website was launched for Town Center CID.
- Town Center CID moved into a new, more centrally located office at One Barrett Lakes, Kennesaw.
