Johns Creek police are searching for a man who pick-pocketed the purse of a woman in Publix while he was wearing a polka dot suit.

The victim left her purse in her unattended cart for a moment, and the man walked up, reached in and grabbed her wallet, according to police who watched surveillance footage of the Oct. 27 incident. The theft happened at the Publix on 9925 Haynes Bridge Road.

Police say the man went to a nearby mall afterwards and spent about $3,000 using the victim’s credit cards. The wallet contained 12 credit cards, $70 in cash and the victim’s drivers license.

Surveillance footage showed that the suspect followed the victim throughout the store, and then swiped her wallet and put it inside of his polka dotted suit jacket while she wasn’t looking, police said.

More than a month later, police are still searching for the suspect. Aside from the head-turning navy blue suit he was wearing, the suspect is described as being about 6-foot-1, about 30 years old, with a slim build and short black hair. On the day of the crime he was also wearing aviator sunglasses and black dress shoes.

In a Facebook post, Johns Creek police said "this is a rare incident" in the city.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Johns Creek police by calling 678-474-1600.
