Georgia Power began repairing downed power lines in Sandy Springs on Tuesday morning, but the company has a lot of work to do.
The city in north Fulton County reports that — as of early Tuesday morning — it had 33 roads closed due to damage from Tropical Storm Irma. Many of these are main roads that drivers use for commutes to work.
“We need the public’s patience, and I’m strongly asking and urging people to stay off the roads in Sandy Springs Tuesday,” Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul said in a statement. “People trying to traverse our city will severely complicate our situation and cause real public safety problems, both to themselves and our crews.”

There is no timeline on when to expect roads to reopen. The city has closed its offices on Tuesday and encourages other businesses within the city to do the same.
Some of the roads closed include parts of Spalding Drive, Riverside Drive, Johnson Ferry Road, Powers Ferry Road, Lake Forrest, Northside Drive, High Point Road and Glenridge Road.
