Cpl. Michael Duncan of the Gwinnett County Police Department was paralyzed from the waist down in a helicopter crash on Sept. 1.

A Gwinnett County police officer was paralyzed from the waist down after the helicopter he was co-piloting crashed on Sept. 1. There are already ways that you can help him as he recovers.

Money is being raised for Cpl. Michael Duncan's recovery and home renovations on a GoFundMe page. Duncan and his family live in their "dream home," an old farmhouse that they renovated, but it will now need "major modifications" in order to allow Duncan to easily move through the home in a wheelchair, the page says.

Duncan may be able to regain some function in his legs with continued treatment, the page says. The goal is to raise $100,000 for the former Marine.

The Gwinnett County Police Foundation is holding a golf tournament to raise money for Duncan, a 11-year veteran of the department. The money from that tournament will go towards making his home wheelchair accessible. Duncan is recovering at the Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta, learning to be "as independent as possible," according to a police department release.

The tournament will be held Oct. 2 at Chateau Elan in Braselton. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased at the police foundation's website.
