Henry County Schools Superintendent Rodney Bowler announced at the April 10 Board of Education meeting that he will be retiring effective Sept. 29.
He began his career in Henry County in 1991 as a teacher at Eagle’s Landing High School and was the first principal of Union Grove High School when it opened in 2000. He will have just over three years in the top job when he steps down. He is the district’s 14th superintendent and its fourth in nine years.
School system officials plan to publicize the position through various organizations nationwide and have indicated no preference as to whether the new superintendent will come from within the district, saying that choosing the right person is the priority over making a choice quickly.
