The Henry County Board of Education voted recently to approve the $5,082,000 purchase of just over 86 acres of land east of the McDonough square for future possible use as middle school and high school campuses. District officials said the appraised value of the property is nearly $7.5 million.

The site is one of 12 that were considered by the school board. It sits directly south of the McDonough post office, bordered by Postmaster Drive on the north and Zack Hinton Parkway (Hwy. 155) on the west, about 800 feet from its intersection with Ga. 81.
