The Gwinnett Animal Shelter is extending its “Catapalooza” adoption discounts, meaning you can take home a new furry friend for a low cost.

The promotion, which began in June, discounts cat adoption fees to $10 and dog adoption fees to $30. That includes the cost of each pet getting spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

The county shelter has repeatedly reached full capacity over the summer. Cats have litters of kittens at high frequency in summer months, which often puts extra pressure on municipal shelters like Gwinnett Animal Shelter, which do not turn animals away.

You can adopt a new pet at the shelter, located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville. “Catapalooza” will continue through the month of August.

The number of adoptions in Gwinnett isn't keeping pace with the 13 percent increase in animals this summer.
