A Gwinnett County Kroger will close its doors in May after nearly 30 years of business.

The grocery store on Highway 78 and Bethany Church Road in Snellville will close on May 9. Kroger chose to close this location due to declining sales and negative profit.

“Its closure is necessary to make Kroger more competitive in the market,” said Felix Turner, a Kroger spokesman, in an email.

The store’s 118 employees will be “considered for reassignment to other Kroger locations as outlined in the company’s collective bargaining agreement,” Turner said.

Signs have been posted at the Snellville store alerting customers of the imminent closure. No details about future store closing sales have been released yet.

The nearest Kroger location to this store is about 6 miles away on Scenic Highway also in Snellville.
