Parkview High School’s JROTC instructor has resigned after a Title IX investigation was opened looking into his behavior, Gwinnett County Public Schools said.

Maj. Ron Tootle, who had been with the school for nearly eight years, resigned on Jan. 30, citing personal reasons, said Sloan Roach, a district spokeswoman. A Title IX and human resources investigation had been opened into Tootle after multiple reports were made by students regarding “inappropriate comments” made by him. The comments “made students feel uncomfortable,” Roach said.

The nature of the comments was not characterized by Roach.

A Title IX investigation is triggered when any student or employee makes a report of behavior they believe is discriminatory based on their race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin or handicap, or if they are being sexually harassed.

This is at least the third faculty or staff resignation at Parkview within nine months after allegations of inappropriate behavior. Parkview math teacher Michael Henderson resigned in May after admitting to an extended sexual relationship with a student. The former Georgia Bulldogs football player, has been indicted on three charges of sexual assault and one charge of child molestation. A school clerk also resigned after being investigated for knowing about Henderson's relationship with the student but failing to report it. The clerk has not been criminally charged.
