UPDATE: Three homes in Gwinnett County were set ablaze after being struck by lightning in Wednesday's severe thunderstorms.

All three fires began in the morning as storms rolled through Gwinnett County. Two of the fires were in Lilburn and one in Loganville, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Capt. Tommy  Rutledge said.

“A lightning strike causes a pretty intense fire and usually there is pretty significant damage,” Rutledge said.

That was the case for at least one of the homes that caught fire in Lilburn. The Trailblazer Way home was struck on the roof by lightning, causing a fire to begin in the attic. After the fire was extinguished, beams and insulation fell through the ceiling into the home’s living quarters, according to photos taken by Channel 2 Action News.

Original story:Firefighters are battling blazes that may have been caused by lightning strikes at two different Gwinnett County homes.

Fire crews have responded to the 4000 block of Winchester Way Southwest in Loganville and the 5100 block of Bowers Brook Drive Southwest in Lilburn. Emergency calls about both homes noted that each had been struck by lightning.

No injuries have been reported from either fire, and neither fire was completely out as of 10:09 a.m. Wednesday.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services also responded to a lightning strike in Norcross at 9:41 a.m., but there was no smoke or fire when crews arrived to the 6000 block of Old Town Place Northwest.
