Two Brookwood High School teachers have been recognized as the best in the state, Gwinnett County Public Schools announced.

Amber Simmons has been named Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English. That award recognizes one language arts teacher each year for their work in the classroom and with colleagues “on a local, state and national level,” a school district release said.

Simmons will go on to represent Georgia at the National Council of Teachers of English High School Teacher of the Year competition.

Ashley Allgood has been named Latin Teacher of the Year, recognized  by the Georgia Classical Association. The award recognizes a Latin language teacher based on their efforts to further the teaching of Latin and their students’ performance.
