Gwinnett County Schools decided shortly after 7 a.m. to join other metro districts in closing early Friday

Up to five inches of snow is expected to begin falling later in the day.

.

“As it stands now, the forecast indicates the storm will hit around 7 p.m., which would not impact the school day. However, it could have an impact on after-school activities including athletic events,” Watson said in an email. “We are considering our options and we will take the appropriate action based on the most up to date forecast and storm models.”

If the district decides to cancel classes or activities, parents and students will be notified through the district’s website and social media, as well as the news media, Watson said.
