The Gwinnett County Police Department is seeking 115 new police officers, including 65 new positions that have been added to the force in 2018.

In order to find recruits for those positions, the department is going on a two-day recruiting trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in March. Representatives from the department will be visiting Nova Southeastern University’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus on March 3 and 4.

Applicants will be able to complete a panel interview and physical and psychological evaluations at the hiring event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Applicants should pre-register at gwinnettpolicejobs.com and begin required paperwork.

Applicants already living in Gwinnett County or other metro Atlanta counties can fill out an application at gwinnettpolicejobs.com any time. The department had multiple in-county, out-of-state and college campus recruiting events in 2017, looking for candidates from across the country to build its police force.

Those who are offered a job can start work immediately. Trainees are given “non-enforcement” assignments until their police academy begins. Trainees also receive full pay during the time they are in the academy.

Police officer trainees earn a salary of $38,642 per year if they do not have a bachelor’s degree, and $40,960 if they have completed a bachelor’s degree. That’s a slight raise from the 2017 salary rates of $37,156 for those without a bachelor’s degree and $39,385 for those with a bachelor’s degree.

After a year with the department, trainees are automatically promoted to the rank of Police Officer Senior, as long as they’ve completed the police academy and field training. That promotion includes a salary raise to $43,200 for those without a bachelor’s degree and $45,792 for those with a degree.
