Gather up your old bank statements and other papers that might contain sensitive information.

On Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, Alpharetta is hosting a free document shredding event in the Department of Public Safety parking lot at 2565 Old Milton Parkway.

Each resident will be limited to five boxes of documents.

1st Secure Shredding, Alpharetta's partner on this event, will offer residents and small businesses the opportunity to safely discard confidential documents using a mobile, on-site shredding truck.

Residents can watch their documents being shredded, and then all of the shredded material will be recycled.

Should residents need to shred more than five boxes, contact Sandy Lehman with 1st Secure Shredding to make other arrangements at 679-773-9306.

The Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission is requesting that participants enhance this free event by bringing one can of food per-box brought for shredding. All collected food items will be dispersed to neighbors through the North Fulton Community Charities Food Bank.

For more information about this event, contact Terry Porter at 678-297-6213 or at tporter@alpharetta.ga.us.
