A DeKalb County Waffle House failed its health inspection Tuesday after the inspector had concerns about employee behavior and “excessive” fruit flies in the kitchen.

The restaurant, located at 2812 Buford Highway in Brookhaven, received a 68, according to the report. The inspector noted spotting "cups stored as 'clean' with dried food debris on the interior/food contact surface. Also, trays used to store clean coffee cups had accumulated debris as well as orange juice spillage."

A “mold like substance” was on soda nozzles.

Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner said employees are working on the issues.

“We apologize to our customers and associates for letting them down, and assure them we are working hard to deliver the experience they deserve. The Senior Vice President, Region Manager and Division Manager are all on site today to ensure all measures are corrected. They have been in contact with our corporate food safety team to set up additional coaching to correct the behavioral issues outlined in the report,” Warner said.
