Emory Johns Creek Hospital just got a little bigger.

The medical center in north Fulton County recently added two new units and observation beds, and will showcase them at a ribbon cutting event on Jan. 29.

The Clinical Decision Unit is an emergency department observation unit located near the emergency room. The unit serves patients who require care for six to 24 hours. It will have 11 observation beds, and Walt Wiley – the hospital’s Emergency Department director – believes it will improve patient satisfaction, improve hospital flow, deliver better clinical outcomes and result in shorter hospital stays.

The CDU will be operated around the clock by two registered nurses, emergency medicine physicians and advanced practice providers.

The new Radiology Observation Care Unit is a specialized outpatient unit for patients who require complicated procedures in interventional radiology, computed tomography, MRI and ultrasound.

“This addition will provide greater privacy and comfort for our patients, which we hope will lessen their anxiety prior to procedural exams while also adding efficiency and state-of-the-art technology for our staff, which improves employee engagement,” said Chrystal Barnes, the EJCH Director of Imaging.

The ribbon cutting will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. in the main lobby at EJCH.
