Eastside Medical Center plans to open three urgent care centers next year, a significant move in the Snellville hospital's quest to expand its services in other parts of Gwinnett County.

Officials said in a Wednesday morning news release that the first Eastside Urgent Care facility is expected to open in January at the Lawrenceville intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Five Forks-Trickum Road. The other two will open in "early 2017" at 3699 Centerville Highway in Snellville and 976 Killian Hill Road in Lilburn.

"For medical needs that do not require a visit to the emergency department, or in instances when a patient is unable to see their primary care physician, Eastside Urgent Care will be able to fill the gap between primary care and emergency care needs," Eastside Medical CEO Trent Lind said in the news release.

Eastside Medical Center, a for-profit hospital owned by Nashville, Tennessee-based Healthcare Corporation of America, has done business on Medical Way in Snellville for more than three decades. It also has several other facilities but only one — a digital imaging center in Loganville — is outside of Snellville.

The new Eastside Urgent Care offices will be open until 8 p.m. on weekdays and offer weekend hours, officials said. Patients will also be able to set appointment times or receive text messages when they're next in line.
